Meet Kathryn
Kathryn Toppan is a Maine educator with decades of experience across general education, gifted education, and special education. She has taught high school English, served as a literacy coach and an Extended Learning Strategist for grades 7–12 gifted and talented students, taught 6th grade, and instructed college-level writing. She currently works as a special education teacher at Lisbon High School.
She is National Board Certified and holds a master's degree in American and New England Studies. She is currently pursuing a Certificate of Advanced Study in educational leadership. Across every role, her work has centered on building curriculum, assessment, and professional development systems that hold up under real classroom conditions. That focus led to the 6x6 Writing Framework, a K-12 writing assessment system built to connect general education instruction, MTSS, and IEP progress monitoring under one shared language.
Kathryn consults with schools and districts on curriculum design, writing instruction, and building sustainable professional learning structures.
